Mary,
First, let me say that I work for the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board.
Thanks so much for writing us and for realizing the importance of supporting our Gulf fishermen. Consumer safety has always been our industrys number one priority and our fishermen have supplied the nation with fresh, quality seafood for generations. While some of our waters have been closed to the spill, a large portion of our coastline remains open and unaffected by the spill. Our fishermen are able to continue to fish in these open waters with confidence, thanks to unprecedented testing of seafood and water by state agenices, such as Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Department of Health and Federal agencies including NOAA and EPA. For those fishermen who are able to continue to work, supporting them by continuing to buy Louisiana seafood is one of the greatest things you can do to help, and please tell your friends and neighbors in Long Island to do the same!

How can we be assured that the shrimp is safe and not tainted. If you have some assurances, then we'll jump in and buy it no problem. Something I'd never usually do, because I live on Long Island and we get local shrimp here, but I'd love to support our Gulf fishermen any way I can.
